Problem Step Recorder(PSR). How to use it?

Problem step recorder (PSR) is a tool provided by Microsoft to record problem steps or any other activities that you do at your computer.


How do I use Problem Steps Recorder?

You can use Problem Steps Recorder to automatically capture the steps you perform on a computer.

It also include a text description of where you clicked and a picture of the screen during each click (called a screen shot).

Once you capture these steps, you can save them to a file that can be used by a support professional or someone else helping you with a computer problem.

The steps will be recorded in a zip file which contains HTML page containing all the steps with images and descriptions of the problem.

Starting PSR

  • To start PSR, just go to Run (Start button + R key), and type "psr".
  • Click on the psr.exe to launch problem step recorder.
  • You can also search it on your start menu i.e. go to start menu, type "psr" and click psr.exe.

  • PSR will be started. Now click on start recording. Once you clicked on "Start record", psr starts recording. every page you click or navigate to will be recorded with snapshots.

  • After you have finished your steps, click on "Stop Record".All your recording will be saved to a zip file. Yo can also pause recording in between.










  • You can also send the recording as an email to a mail recipient. Just click on the down arrow button beside help symbol and click "Send to Email Recipient"
